Working Group Updates: Nee Kee Wa Nan Initiative

On June 30th, the Nee Kee Wa Nan Initiative Working Group held a meeting to review recent updates and plan upcoming activities for the community. Here are some highlights:

  1. GPR Site Visit (August 15–19)
    Mary-Jane Wabano provided an update on the positive reception from the community during the Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) site visit. The team emphasized the importance of keeping the community informed as progress continues.
  2. Honorarium Update
    Dillon clarified recent discrepancies in honorarium deposits and will provide detailed breakdowns to ensure accurate payments for all working group members.
  3. Portfolio Responsibilities
    Land Investigations: Rick and David stressed the value of collaborating with existing services rather than handling tasks individually.
  4. Communications & Events
    Martha and Linda shared their efforts to engage communities, including distributing initiative materials during CreeFest.
  5. Youth and Elders Engagement
    The team is planning activities that connect youth and elders, such as the upcoming Youth Gathering (August 9–11), which focuses on addressing intergenerational trauma and sharing knowledge.
  6. Community Visits
    Members discussed plans to attend the KKG Gathering in Attawapiskat (August 4–10), ensuring continued engagement with the broader community.
