Research Update: Findings from Codex Historicus Records

November 29, 2024

The research team has made significant progress in uncovering historical truths related to St. Anne’s Residential School. Recently, five Codex Historicus records were obtained from the Deschatelets Archive, free of charge. These records, originally written in French, provide detailed accounts of the mission’s activities and include important references to St. Anne’s through the perspective of the staff.

The team has completed a review of two of these documents so far, revealing crucial information:

  • Four new student death dates (1911 and 1912) were identified.
  • Fourteen additional student names were added to our database, preserving their stories for future generations.

These findings mark another step forward in our commitment to truth-finding and ensuring the voices of those who attended St. Anne’s are acknowledged and remembered. The remaining records, covering various time periods, are being reviewed, and we will provide updates as new information emerges.

Chi Miikwetch to the dedicated researchers for their hard work and to the community for your continued support. Together, we honor the lives of those impacted by St. Anne’s and work toward collective healing.
